Daiwa House Industry’s residence equipped with Li-ion rechargeable batteriesAt first glance, the battery-operated house with rooftop solar panel appear to be quite conventional. But inside this 26,000 square foot home in Siatama near Tokyo quickly reveals itself to be a model in energy efficiency. The homeowner calls it the “Eco House”. It is connect to the grid, but it is designed to provide its own electricity for 14 uninterrupted hours each day. The difference between this and the other solar-powered homes is the rechargeable lithium ion batteries that store the electricity generated each day by the roof top panels. The power is distributed throughout the house by a centralized computer system, which also keeps the homeowner informed about daily energy uses. The home owner Saeki Yoshinori says the system also offers energy-saving suggestions: “Advised by this monitor, residents can choose whether they want to sell the stored electricity to the local grid, or use in the house to reduce CO2.”
Eliiy Power’s Li-ion rechargeable batteryThe company believes its energy reduce management system will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 65%. As the technology improves, it is said that the household electricity bill will disappear entirely. At the cost of 600,000 dollars, however, the house is not cheap, but the price of the house will come down over time, and the power storage and management will save homeowners money in the long run.
“By enhancing the electricity knowledge, we will be able to make this house fully sustainable with the energy generated in the house in the near future.
All of the rooms have LED lighting equipment. The house is projected to go on sale in April, 2013.
